Editorial & Review Policy

MedBillGuide publishes practical, accurate information about US medical bills, health insurance and billing careers. This page explains how we create, check and update our content.

Experience first

Our content is written by people with real experience in US medical billing. When we describe how a bill is coded, why a claim was denied or how to request an itemized bill, that comes from years of working on real claims, not from guesswork.

Sources we rely on

We base legal and insurance facts on primary sources, including:

  • Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and HealthCare.gov
  • The No Surprises Act rules and CMS guidance
  • The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB)
  • The US Bureau of Labor Statistics (for career and salary data)
  • Official certification bodies such as AAPC and AHIMA

We link to these sources in each article so you can check them yourself.

Accuracy and updates

  • Every article shows a “last reviewed” date.
  • Articles about laws, plan-year rules and costs are reviewed at least once a year and whenever the rules change.
  • If a reviewer with specific credentials checks an article, their name and credentials appear on that article. We only list reviewers who actually reviewed the page.

Use of AI tools

We may use AI tools to help with research, outlines and drafts. A human with billing experience reviews, edits and fact-checks every article before it is published, and takes responsibility for its accuracy.

Independence and advertising

We may earn money from ads or from affiliate links (for example, to training courses). This never changes what we recommend. Sponsored content and affiliate links are always labeled.

Not professional advice

Our content is educational. For decisions about your own bill, coverage or legal rights, contact your insurer, provider, a licensed professional or a patient advocate. See our Disclaimer.
