Between appointments, EOBs and bills from five different offices, it’s easy to pay something twice or miss a due date. Keep everything in one list here: no account, no sign-up, and your information never leaves your device.
Your data stays on this device. It’s saved only in this browser, never sent to us. It won’t appear on your other devices, and clearing your browser data erases it, so download a copy now and then.
How to use the tracker
- Add each appointment with notes on what to bring or ask. Tap “Add to calendar” for a reminder the day before.
- Add each bill when it arrives, with the due date and account number.
- Set the status to “Waiting for EOB” until your insurer’s Explanation of Benefits arrives, then compare them.
- Write down every call: the date, who you spoke to and what they promised. Notes like these win disputes.
- Download the spreadsheet now and then as a backup, or to share with a family member who helps with bills.
What each status means
| Status | What to do next |
|---|---|
| Waiting for EOB | Don’t pay yet. Wait for your insurer to process the claim. |
| EOB matches, need to pay | The bill matches the “patient responsibility” on your EOB. Pay or ask for a payment plan. |
| Asked for itemized bill | Check every line for duplicates or services you didn’t get. |
| Disputed | Ask the office to hold the account so it doesn’t go to collections. |
| Applied for financial assistance | Ask the hospital to pause billing while your application is reviewed. |
| Payment plan | Get the plan in writing, with no interest if possible. |
From 15 years in billing: most patients who end up in collections didn’t ignore their bills. They lost track of which bill was which. One list with account numbers and due dates prevents most of it.
Frequently asked questions
Is my information safe?
Yes. Everything is stored only in your own browser on this device. Nothing is sent to MedBillGuide or anyone else. That also means it won’t sync to your other devices, so download a backup copy now and then.
Should I pay a medical bill before I get my EOB?
Usually not. Wait for the Explanation of Benefits from your insurer and check that the bill matches the amount it says you owe.
